First, the comics
J. Wellington Wimpy is the round, soft-spoken hamburger fanatic from the old Popeye comic strip, famous for one line: “I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.” For almost a century, his name has meant one thing: a man who takes burgers seriously.
Then, the burger
At Funny Pages Cafe, a Wimpy Burger is hand-pattied in the kitchen, not pulled from a freezer box. The big ones are half pounders, stacked and served with fries, and the menu board says it plainly: not so wimpy. Order one with mushrooms and swiss, with bacon and cheese, or plain the way a diner burger started.
When to come
Burgers run through lunch, and the cafe closes at 2 PM every day. Come before the afternoon gets away from you, or order pickup ahead and skip the wait.
